Metamorphosis

Insects - Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis refers to the way that insects develop, grow, and change form. Metamorphosis actually means "change". There are two types of metamorphosis--incomplete and complete.
Incomplete Metamorphosis
About 12% of all insects go through incomplete metamorphosis. Incomplete metamorphosis has 3 stages.
·       Egg - A female insect lays eggs. These eggs are often covered by an egg case which protects the eggs and holds them together.
·       Nymph - The eggs hatch into nymphs. Nymphs looks like small adults, but usually don't have wings. Insect nymphs eat the same food that the adult insect eats. Nymphs shed or molt their exoskeletons (outer casings made up of a hard substance called chitin) and replace them with larger ones several times as they grow. Most nymphs molt 4-8 times.
·       Adult - The insects stop molting when they reach their adult size. By this time, they have also grown wings.
Complete Metamorphosis
About 88% of all insects go through complete metamorphosis. Complete metamorphosis has 4 stages:
·       Egg - A female insects lays eggs.
·       Larva - Larvae hatch from the eggs. They do not look like adult insects. They usually have a worm-like shape. Caterpillers, maggots, and grubs are all just the larval stages of insects. Larvae molt their skin several times and they grow slightly larger.
·       Pupa - Larvae make cocoons around themselves. Larvae don't eat while they're inside their cocoons. Their bodies develop into an adult shape with wings, legs, internal organs, etc. This change takes anywhere from 4 days to many months.
·       Adult - Inside the cocoon, the larvae change into adults. After a period of time, the adult breaks out of the cocoon.

Madagascar : The Magical Island

This is my first English assay I ever wrote in my life , I'm extremely excited to share it with you.
Thanks to my teacher , Ms Dania who helped me by correcting my mistakes.

Madagascar is one of the most unique islands in the world. It is also the fourth largest island in the world, located in the Indian ocean near the coast of the Africa continent. Even though I enjoy working on my scientific researches of Madagascar, I am concerned about the environment of Madagascar. I think we should preserve Madagascar from tourism companies, who care only about making money.

Madagascar is home to a vast array of over 90% of plants and animals that many of them can't be found anywhere else on the earth. And when tourism companies cut wide areas of trees in order to build hotels and rest homes for tourists, the number of very rare trees will decrease (pic 1 ), also animals like birds and lemurs (pic 2 ). The rainy season in Madagascar is not enough to restore its ecosystem.

The natural beauty of Madagascar is endanger. In the long run, there will be harsh consequences for this unique island. Cutting trees and sending huge number of tourists to Madagascar probably won't help the environment. Even though the impact is not clear now, the government should take this problem seriously, otherwise people won't be able to see those scenic landscapes in the future.

Because it's a beautiful island, a whole animation movie was inspired from Madagascar. starting with the name and along to its characters and scenes .

Interviews: What is eco-tourism?

A Way to Save a Paradise

As a part of an ecotourism travel agency, I have arranged many trips to Lebanon for customers. Lebanon is a perfect destination because of its splendid cedar. Other than being the symbol of the Cedar revolution and being displayed on the flag of Lebanon, the cedar of Lebanon is a fragile environment that I believe tourists should be allowed to see.
From my point of view, ecotourism is helping the Lebanon cedar in many ways. For instance, ecotourism provides financial support for two sides, the locals and the conservation of the cedar. Also, the environmental awareness of the tourists will increase when they see the unique beauty of the cedar and that will make them want to learn more about it and they might try to preserve it in their own way. Moreover, ecotourism discourages the construction of hotels which can be destructive to the cedar.
The Lebanon cedar is one obvious example of the beauty of Lebanon and even though it is delicate, I think there are many ways to conserve it. One way to support the Lebanon cedar is to encourage the ecotourism in Lebanon because I believe that tourists are capable of preserving this paradise.

glacier vs iceberg

Icebergs and glaciers are both enormous masses of snow, built up over the years through natural processes. However, they are both different from each other in form and structure, as well process of formation. Glaciers are formed over continual deposition of snow at a place where it does not melt. When a chunk of this glacier breaks off and floats in the water, it is known as an iceberg.

Restates the main idea expressed in your thesis statement.

What Is A Difference Between A Glacier And An Iceberg?

Glacier are huge mass of moving ice .glaciers are formed on the high mountains and on high latitudes .the reason fro forming on the high altitude is, because the rate of snowfall is much higher than the melting rate of snow on the hilly and mountainous regions. There are four types of glaciers which are alpine, piedmont, icecap and continental .they formed according to the topography and climatic regions.

Icebergs are masses of fresh water ice or that's broken from glaciers or from the huge slab of permanent ice which floats on water, oceans or in lakes. The reason of ice floating is that it is less dense then the water. Iceberg can be so large. The largest iceberg ever observed was 335 kilometers long and 97 kilometers wide, which is the size of Belgium. They are of different sizes and shapes depending on the area of origin and their age. They exist in different forms as rounded, irregular and tabular in form. Icebergs were first known by mariners and explorer, sealer who hunted their prey in arctic and Antarctic water. From the beginning of 20th century now it's used as a plat form for scientific researchers

Antarctica

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antarctica:

is Earth's southernmost continent, containing the geographic South Pole. It is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14.0 million km2 (5.4 million sq mi), it is the fifth-largest continent in area after Asia, Africa, North America, and South America. For comparison, Antarctica is nearly twice the size of Australia. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages at least 1 mile (1.6 km) in thickness.
Antarctica, on average, is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, and has the highest average elevation of all the continents.[6] Antarctica is considered a desert, with annual precipitation of only 200 mm (8 inches) along the coast and far less inland.[7] The temperature in Antarctica has reached −89 °C (−129 °F). There are no permanent human residents, but anywhere from 1,000 to 5,000 people reside throughout the year at the research stations scattered across the continent. Only cold-adapted organisms survive there, including many types of algae, animals (for example mites, nematodes, penguins, seals and tardigrades), bacteria, fungi, plants, and protista. Vegetation where it occurs is tundra.
Although myths and speculation about a Terra Australis ("Southern Land") date back to antiquity, the first confirmed sighting of the continent is commonly accepted to have occurred in 1820 by the Russian expedition of Fabian Gottlieb von Bellingshausen and Mikhail Lazarev on Vostok and Mirny. The continent, however, remained largely neglected for the rest of the 19th century because of its hostile environment, lack of resources, and isolation. The Antarctic Treaty was signed in 1959 by 12 countries; to date, 49 countries have signed the treaty. The treaty prohibits military activities and mineral mining, prohibits nuclear explosions and nuclear waste disposal, supports scientific research, and protects the continent's ecozone. Ongoing experiments are conducted by more than 4,000 scientists from many nations.
